Special Collections, including the University Archive collection, plays an active role in the teaching, learning and research work of the University of Birmingham through the development of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching sessions, individual and group project work, development of research projects and community projects and an active exhibitions programme which is open to the public.
Our collections, many of which are of national and international significance, also attract students, academics and other researchers from elsewhere in the UK and from around the world. Special Collections is also committed to and engaged in the promotion and development of the region’s heritage, and works in partnership with organisations such as Birmingham City Council, particularly through its Museum and Art Gallery and the Birmingham Central Library, as well as wider links throughout the West Midlands and surrounding area. We are a member of the Birmingham Heritage Forum which is a voluntary association of public and private groups and individuals interested in the heritage of Birmingham.
