In January 1912, the British Antarctic Expedition ‘Terra Nova’ led by Robert Falcon Scott, lost the race to the South Pole having been beaten by the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, who had arrived 33 days earlier. On their return journey, the expedition party tragically perished.

The Cadbury Research Library: Special Collections are marking the centenary of Scott’s last expedition with a display in the Main Library foyer of materials from the collections about the Terra Nova Expedition, highlighting not only the efforts to reach the South Pole, but also the perilous scientific research carried out by the expedition.
